Monograph

Help your body maintain cholesterol balance and heart health. Sytrinol™ was developed after 12 years of research, which found PMFs and tocotrienols have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that assist normal cardiovascular function and cholesterol synthesis - vital to cellular function and hormone balance.

Description

NUTRAscriptives® Sytrinol contains a proprietary blend of polymethoxylated flavones (from dried fruits and orange peels) and tocotrienols (a form of vitamin E).

Research

Cardiovascular Health

Sytrinol™ contains two potent antioxidant blends that offer a wide range of cardiovascular benefits, polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs) and tocotrienols. PMFs are flavonoids that have been shown to promote normal cell growth, reduce inflammation, and support endothelial function.[1] Tocotrienols are compounds in the vitamin E group, which have exhibited strong antioxidant effects to support cardiovascular health and normal cell growth.[2]

Flavones may counteract the formation of cerebral blood clots and cardiovascular dysfunction. A longitudinal-study followed 1,950 healthy men (aged 42-60) for approximately 15 years. Results indicated subjects that consumed the highest amount of flavonoids were less likely to develop cerebral blood clots or cardiovascular dysfunction.[3] These researchers conducted a similar study reviewing the effects of flavonoids in 1,380 middle-aged men with various levels of cardiovascular health. Results indicated a high flavonoid intake was related to optimal cardiovascular health.[4]

A six-year study of 25,372 male smokers (50-60 years old) with normal cardiovascular function observed the benefits of flavones and flavonols on heart health. Results indicated subjects with the highest intake of flavone and flavonols were less likely to develop cardiovascular ailments.[5]

Chronic inflammation is often related to cardiovascular dysfunction, as inflammation influences the development of endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and immune cells. Tocotrienols can reduce the inflammation response allowing various arterial functions to stabilize.[6]

Cholesterol

Several studies have shown that the PMFs and tocotrienols found in Sytrinol™ have cholesterol-balancing components. Three different groups of subjects (men and women, 19 – 65 years old) with cholesterol imbalances took citrus flavonoids/tocotrienols or a placebo for four weeks. A third group was involved with a twelve-week administration. Daily treatment with citrus flavonoids/tocotrienols significantly improved cholesterol levels.[7]

One study gave 28 subjects tocotrienols and 16 subjects vitamin E for four weeks. Total cholesterol and LDL levels significantly decreased in the tocotrienol group, while the vitamin E group was unaffected.[8]

A ten-week animal study reviewed tocotrienols effects in rabbits with cholesterol imbalances. Three different groups were established to receive a normal diet, 2% cholesterol diet, or 2% cholesterol diet with tocotrienols. Researchers found that the development of lipid peroxidation was lowest in rabbits consuming a 2% cholesterol diet with tocotrienols.[9]

Another animal study found tocotrienols reduced lipid peroxidation in the blood and enhanced antioxidant activity, including superoxide dismutase (SOD). The study indicated tocotrienols' antioxidant effects could prevent blood pressure imbalances.[10]

PMFs balanced cholesterol levels in hamsters. These potent antioxidants decreased LDL cholesterol by augmenting PMF metabolites in the liver to reduce the production of lipids in the blood.[11]

Cellular Immunity

Tocotrienols' antioxidant benefits can support normal cellular proliferation. One study observed tocotrienols decreased abnormal cellular growth in the gastrointestinal tract.[12]

Insulin Balance

Individuals with insulin imbalances are often at greater risk for developing cardiovascular ailments. A sixty-day study gave tocotrienols to rats with insulin ailments finding a decline in high LDL cholesterol levels that are commonly associated with insulin imbalances.[13]

A similar study reviewed the effects of polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs) on insulin abnormalities in hamsters. Results indicated PMF decreased insulin levels and improved glucose tolerance.[14]
